Speaker: Iran Ready to Develop Academic Cooperation with Turkmenistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian parliament speaker expressed Tehran’s readiness to provide Turkmenistan with academic assistance, saying his country is eager to "generously" transfer technology to its neighbor.
“We are ready to have students from Turkmenistan in our universities, and want professors of these (Turkmen) universities to get acquainted with their friends in Iranian universities by travelling to Iran,” Ali Larijani said on Saturday, addressing a group of Turkmen students in Magtymguly Pyragy University in Ashgabat.
The Iranian official then touched on Iran’s remarkable progress in diverse fields such as oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, saying that “We are ready to act generously in transferring technology to Turkmen friends.”
According to larijani, the volume of tarde between Iran and Turkmenistan is estimated to be around $5 bln a year, and he expressed hope that the figure can reach $10 bln in the coming years.
Elsewhere, Larijani once again reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to use nuclear energy for purely peaceful purposes, saying the country now utilizes the technology in various fields.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani is in Turkmen capital city of Ashgabat for an official three-day visit aimed at expanding ties between the two neighbors.
In a relevant development on August 5, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani had also praised the close ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, and emphasized the need for further enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations.
In a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow at the time, President Rouhani pointed to amicable relations between Tehran and Ashgabat, saying, “Bilateral relations in economic, political and cultural fields will further develop in the future.”
