Iran Comes 9th in Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished in ninth place in the 11th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship.

The Iranian team defeated Samoa in straight sets (25–17, 25–17, 25–15) on Friday and came ninth in the tournament underway in China.

Iran started the campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Olympic champion China and then suffered a shock defeat to Hong Kong 3-1.

Majda Cicic’s girls defeated Uzbekistan 3-2 and then earned their second victory over Samoa to come ninth in the event.

The tournament has brought a total of 11 teams including reigning champion Japan, China, Iran, Thailand, Korea, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, Australia and Samoa together.

The top four teams in the tournament will advance to the 2017 FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship, which is due to take place in Argentina from August 18 to 27.
