Iran Football Team Loses to Iraq in Friendly

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national football team was defeated against Iraq in a friendly match on Saturday.

In the match held behind the closed doors in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Team Melli suffered a 1-0 defeat to Iraq.

Iraqi striker found the back of the net from the penalty spot in 76th minute.

Team Melli is preparing for the match against Qatar scheduled for March 23 in Doha in upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Carlos Queiroz’s men will host China five days later in Tehran's Azadi Stadium.

 Team Melli has been drawn along with South Korea, Uzbekistan, China, Qatar and Syria in Group A of the third round of the competition.

Iran leads the group with 11 points, followed by South Korea with 10 points.

Asian powerhouse Japan has been pitted against Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Thailand in Group B.
