Iran Handed Tough Draw at FIVB Volleyball World Championship QT

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Powerhouse Iran has been handed a tough draw in Pool A with China, Korea, Qatar and a qualified team from Central Asia in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championship Quarter-final for Men.

The competition will be held in Tehran, capital of Iran between August 10 and 14.

Following the drawing of lots for the  FIVB Volleyball World Championship Quarter-finals (Asian Zone) held at Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel in Bangkok, Iran, current world No.7 and joint fifth place at the Rio Olympic Games, will kick off its World Championship Quarter-final campaign at home against Korea on August 11, the second day of the competition.

The formidable Iranians, who suffered a shock defeat in the final showdown against Japan at the 2015 Asian Senior Men’s Championship at home, will next go up against world No. 20 China, a qualified Central Asia team and Qatar on August 12, 13 and 14 respectively, asianvolleyball.net reported.

Kazakhstan, India, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan will take part in the World Championship Central Asian Qualification Round in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from April 21 to 23, vying for a place in the Pool A clash in Iran.

World No.15 Australia will host Pool B competition between July 12 and 16.

The team has been pitted against Asian champion Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and New Zealand.

Only top two teams apiece from Pool A in Iran and Pool B in Australia will make the cut for the 24-team 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship (Finals) in Italy and joint hosts Bulgaria.
