Iran’s FM Zarif Felicitates Turkey over Result of Referendum

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday offered his congratulations over the result of the recent referendum held in Turkey on changes to the country’s constitution.

In a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, Zarif offered his congratulations over the Turkish people’s ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum.

He also expressed the hope that the development would further boost stability and peace in the neighboring country.

Turkey held a referendum on Sunday on a package of constitutional changes.

The referendum was seen as crucial not just for shaping the political system of Turkey but also the future strategic direction of a nation that has been a NATO member since 1952 and an EU hopeful for half a century.

The 'Yes' camp won 51.41 percent in referendum on a new presidential system and 'No' 48.59, according to results released by the election authorities.
