Iran’s FM in Kyrgyzstan for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Tuesday night on the final leg of regional tour that took him earlier to Turkmenistan and Georgia.

Heading a mainly business delegation, Zarif is going to meet President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev and Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev in his one-day stay in Bishkek.

The top Iranian diplomat will also attend a conference on Iran-Kyrgyzstan economic cooperation.

In December 2016, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani paid an official visit to Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of his Kyrgyz counterpart Atambayev.

During the trip, the two countries signed five cooperation documents to develop the relations in various fields.

Iranian officials maintain that Central Asia plays a significant role in Tehran’s foreign policy agenda, expressing readiness for investment in the post-Soviet states by the Iranian companies.
