Saudi Forces Suffer Setbacks in Asir, Najran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and Popular Committees fighters inflicted material losses and casualties on Saudi forces and mercenaries inside the kingdom’s border region of Asir.
On Wednesday, Yemeni forces repelled a major offensive by Saudi-backed mercenaries at the Alab border crossing in Saudi Arabia's southwestern and border region of Asir, leaving a large group of them dead and injured, Lebanon's Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported.
Following the counter-attack, the Arab country’s troops shelled the Saudi base of al-Fareezah in Asir, and inflicted massive losses on them.
In a separate development, the army troops launched separate assaults against mercenary militant groups in the southern province of Taiz, clearing the areas of al-Kadha, al-Ma’afer, and al-Khazan of them.
Additionally, Yemeni snipers hunted down a Saudi soldier in the kingdom’s southwestern province of Najran on Wednesday.
The Saudi regime has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in the past year and a half in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Some 11,000 Yemenis, including women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
