Brazil Eager for Anti-Terror Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Brazil’s minister of defense, in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart that marked the first such get-together in 40 years, called for close cooperation with Iran in the fight against terrorism.

Defense ministers of Iran and Brazil met for the first time in about 40 years on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS) in Russia.

Hailing the relations between Tehran and Brasilia as “historic”, Brazilian Defense Minister Raul Belens Jungmann Pinto called for expansion of ties in all fields.

Stressing the need for decisive action against terrorism in all shapes, the Brazilian minister also urged “exchanging information and experiences” between the two countries to that end.

For his part, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan praised Brazil’s “constructive role” in regional and international developments and its supportive stances toward Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

There exist suitable grounds for Iran-Brazil cooperation in diverse fields, he added.

Dehqan, who is heading a military delegation in the trip to Moscow, delivered a speech to the conference, attended by 700 participants from 80 countries.

Counterterrorism and counterradicalism in the Middle East, security of information space, and security in Central Asia are in the spotlight of separate discussion sessions of the conference.
