Iran Advances to Indoor Hockey Asia Cup Semis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran stayed unbeaten with a 10-3 victory over Oman to book a berth in the seventh edition of the Indoor Hockey Asia Cup.

Iran will play Uzbekistan for a spot in the final. The last time the two teams had met, which was in the 2015 Indoor Asia Cup, Iran had handed a 16-3 thumping to the Uzbeks in a round robin match.

Iran had defeated Malaysia (11-0) and Qatar (9-3) in Group A.

Iran is the most decorated Asian team, having won six previous editions.

Indoor Hockey Asia Cup is an international men's and women's indoor field hockey tournament governed by the Asian Hockey Federation (ASHF).

It was introduced in 2008 for men's competition and the women's competition was added a year later in 2009.

The Indoor Hockey Asia Cup’s finalists will qualify for the Hockey Indoor World Cup 2018 which will be held in Berlin, Germany from February 7 to 11.
