Muslim Countries’ Problems Rooted in Staying Away from Quran: Leader

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the importance of Quranic teachings and said if Muslims truly act in accordance with them, their problems will be resolved.

“The conditions of Islamic governments and countries in the face of the US, Zionism and looters today originate from their staying away from the Quran,” Ayatollah Khamenei said Thursday at a meeting with Quran reciters, memorizers and experts participating in the 34th International Holy Quran Competition in Tehran.

“If we get closer to the Quran and the Islamic identity, all of these problems (facing Muslim communities) will be resolved,” the Leader stressed.

Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to “the dominance of the Western culture, economy and politics” as the plight of the Islamic Ummah (community) today, saying it is rooted in the absence of the Islamic identity in many Muslim countries.

The Leader further described the Quranic teachings as “lifesaving” and said they lead Muslims to live a dignified life.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that the teachings should become the common discourse in Islamic societies.

The 34th International Holy Quran Competition opened in the Iranian capital last Wednesday with the participation of dozens of Quran reciters and memorizers from 83 countries.
