Iran’s Zarif Due in Afghanistan Tomorrow
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will pay an official visit to neighboring Afghanistan on Sunday to hold talks with senior Afghan officials on a range of issues, including ways to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
Heading a high-ranking political delegation, Zarif will leave Tehran for Kabul early on Sunday at the official invitation of his Afghan counterpart, Salahuddin Rabbani, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.
The spokesman added that in addition to Rabbani, the Iranian top diplomat will meet with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah during his trip.
Zarif’s talks with the senior Afghan officials will feature various topics, including Tehran-Kabul relations and the latest regional and international developments.
Back in May 2016, the Afghan president traveled to Iran to sign the trilateral agreement between Iran, Afghanistan and India on the establishment of an international transit corridor via the Iranian port city of Chabahar.
While in Tehran, Ghani had a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, during which he voiced Kabul’s willingness to cement closer regional cooperation with Tehran.
