Iranian Envoy in Pakistan Summoned over Top General’s Remarks

ISLAMABAD (Tasnim) – The Pakistani government summoned Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honardoost following recent remarks by Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, who criticized the neighboring country’s failure to secure the common borders.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Honardoost was summoned after Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said if the Pakistani government were not capable of controlling the terrorists, Iran would ensure the security of its borders by destroying their bases.

The comments come against the backdrop of a cross-border terrorist attack from inside Pakistan on April 26, in which ten Iranian servicemen were killed on duty in Mirjaveh, in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

One border guard was also kidnapped by the terrorists.

The attack on the Iranian troops was claimed by the so-called Jaish al-Adl Takfiri terrorist group.

Iran’s Police said the martyrs were killed by long-range weapons fired from Pakistani soil.
