Collapse of Another Afghan City to Taliban Looming

KABUL (Tasnim) – Heavy clashes erupted between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants in Du Ab in the northern province of Samangan amid fears of the collapse of the city to the insurgents, authorities said.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Samangan Provincial Council announced that 150 armed members of Taliban have attacked the Du Ab in the province, laying a siege to the government buildings in the city.

Speaking to local media outlets, a member of the provincial council has announced that Taliban mounted the attack on Friday, adding that the severe clashes are underway.

He further emphasized that the Taliban militants have captured 30 districts near Du Ab’s city center, according to the reports.

Earlier last week, a town near the northern Afghan city of Kunduz was fallen into the hands of Taliban militants, according to a senior representative of Kunduz Provincial Council.

Taliban militants mounted severe attacks against Qala-i-Zal on May 5 and took full control of the northern town last Saturday, Asadollah Sadat said.
