Syria Army Continues to Inflict Losses on Daesh in Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting major losses on them.

On Saturday evening, Syrian forces targeted the positions of Daesh terrorists in the neighborhoods of al-Sheikh Yassin, al-Hamidiyeh, and Kanamat, leaving many terrorists dead and injured and destroying their vehicles, Syria's SANA official news agency reported.

Separately, at least ten militants were killed in the areas of Maqaber and al-Orfi in Deir ez-Zor after Syrian government forces stepped up their attacks on them.

Additionally, Syrian forces managed to retake a military airbase in the country’s northern province of Aleppo from Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

The director of the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, said Syrian troopers established control over the small al-Jarrah airport on Saturday after heavy fighting with Daesh members.

“The majority of the extremists have withdrawn, and government forces are carrying out clearing operations in the airport and engaged in limited clashes with remaining Daesh elements,” he added.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
