US Says Ready to Cooperate with Iran, Russia to Resolve Syria Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Washington is ready to cooperate with Tehran and Moscow to help resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.

"The US will work with both Russia and Iran to bring peaceful solution to Syria," Spicer said during a White House daily press briefing on Monday, according to the official website of US Department of State.

The remarks came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently held talks with US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to discuss, among other topics, the countries' joint efforts to bring a peaceful solution to Syria.

In his meetings, the Russian foreign minister dismissed accusations by the US and a number of its allies that Iran backs terror, saying the Islamic Republic is in fact a “powerful player” in the fight against terrorist groups in Syria.

Iran has been lending military advisory support to the Syrian army’s operations against Takfiri terrorists at Syria’s request.
