Iraq Presents 3-Article Roadmap to End Syria Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An adviser to the Iranian parliament speaker announced that Iraq has put forward a 3-article roadmap for the resolution of the Syrian crisis under the auspices of Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi has submitted a proposal to his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani that calls for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, Hossein Sheikholeslam told Tasnim News Agency on Sunday.

His remarks came after Larijani and his Iraqi counterpart had a meeting on Saturday, when both underlined that the Syrian crisis would be resolved only through a political approach, and described the presence of terrorists in Syria as a problem for the whole region.

Nujaifi is in Tehran for a 4-day official visit, during which he will meet senior Iranian officials.

“The plan that Iraqi parliament speaker and his accompanying delegation submitted in private talks, has 3 main provisions,” Sheikholeslam explained.

"Ceasefire in Syria, withdrawal of all foreign nationals" who are fighting an armed battle against the country’s government, and "a timetable for launching dialogues and holding elections" are the three main headlines in the proposal.

Nujaifi has already submitted his country’s proposal to Turkey, Sheikholeslam stated, adding that he will also present the plan to Saudi Arabia after leaving Iran.
