Commander Deplores Terrorist Activities in Turkey along Iran Border
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of Iran’s border police slammed a terrorist incident along the border with Turkey that left two Iranian guards killed on Saturday, saying Turkey should be held accountable for letting such events happen.
“We consider Turkey liable and it should be held accountable for this act (of terrorism),” Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei said on Sunday.
He also deplored the activities of terrorist groups in Turkey along the border areas with Iran.
On Saturday evening, a gunfight occurred between Iranian Police forces serving at Oroumiyeh border regiment and PJAK militants northwest of Iran.
According to reports, troops from ‘Ziyaee’ border company came under attack as they were moving along the border for a routine changing of guards.
The clash resulted in the martyrdom of Major Mohammad Reza Firouzi, commander of the company, and Warrant Officer Mohammad Reza Farahi.
Five other soldiers were injured in the attack.
Condemning the terrorist incident, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei stressed that Iran “will definitely give a crushing response to such moves.”
The commander noted that Iran’s diplomatic apparatus is pursuing the case and initial measures have been taken in this regard.
He also said the guards wounded in the incident are in good health.
PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which conducts deadly operations in northern Iraq and southern Turkey.
PJAK terrorists regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country’s western shared border with Turkey and Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
