Over 200,000 Syrian Students Taking Final Exams: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 200,000 Syrian students are doing their final exams across all government-held areas, an official said.

Younes Fati, the head of Syria’s Examinations Directorate, said a total number of 205,543 students on Tuesday started their final exams after the Education Ministry made all the necessary preparations, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

He added that the ministry’s officials, in cooperation with security forces, have managed to prepare over 1848 centers for the exams despite the ongoing crisis in the Arab country. The exams are scheduled to run until June 15.

A government delegation, headed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis, inspected the examination process in Qudsaya Suburb of Damascus.

Speaking to reporters, Khamis said the Syrian state is continuing its work until full victory is achieved in various aspects, adding that the ministry of education will continue to follow up on a daily basis to ensure that the examination process runs well.

Education Minister Hazwan al-Waz said the Ministry will take the appropriate and decisive measures to address any defect that may face the examination process immediately and will not hesitate to take any action against violators.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
