Iranian Embassy in Afghanistan Capital Damaged in Car Bomb Attack
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian embassy in Kabul was damaged after a massive blast ripped through the Afghan capital on Wednesday, media reports said.
According to the reports, the explosion shattered the Iranian diplomatic mission’s windows and damaged its ceiling tiles
A powerful car bomb exploded in Kabul on Wednesday in an area near the presidential palace and foreign embassies killing and injuring hundreds of people.
According to Afghanistan’s health ministry, the blast has so far claimed the lives of over 80 people and injured 300 others.
The explosion was in a part of the city that houses many foreign embassies as well as the presidential palace.
"It was a car bomb near the German embassy, but there are several other important compounds and offices near there too," police spokesman Basir Mujahid said.
The Indian embassy has also reported damage to its buildings.
Other embassies within a few blocks include Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Canada and France.
The Central Square has now been cordoned off by police.
It is not yet known if any Australians have been hurt, but the Department of Foreign Affairs reports that diplomatic staff are currently in lockdown.
The Australian embassy is at least a kilometer away from the explosion site.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
