Northern Town Falling to Taliban, Afghan Officials Warn

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Local Afghan officials said Imam Sahib, a town in the northern province of Kunduz, is on the verge of collapse after attacks by Taliban militants.

According to Tasnim dispatches, local sources said that following heavy clashes that erupted between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants, the town may fall to the insurgents soon.

The governor of Imam Sahib has warned that the clashes have spread into areas near the governor’s office and police headquarters in the town.

He said if backup forces do not arrive on time, it will fall into the hands of the Taliban.

Last month, a town near the northern city of Kunduz had fallen into the hands of the Taliban.

The militants mounted severe attacks against Qala-i-Zal in early May and took full control of the northern town.
