Iran Security Forces on High Alert after Terrorist Attacks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Security forces all over the country have been kept on standby following terrorist attacks in Tehran on Wednesday, a top security official said.

Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari told the TV’s midday news program that the terrorist attack at the parliament has killed two people and injured more than 30 others.

According to the official, the assailants had entered the parliament building dressed as women.

He said the security forces around the parliament have besieged the gunmen, expecting that the crisis would be over within hours.

Zolfaqari noted that security forces all over the country have been kept on standby following separate attacks on the parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini.

On Wednesday morning, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Iran's parliament building in downtown Tehran and on the mausoleum of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

At the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, one of the assailants was shot dead and another one blew himself up.

Reports also suggest that in the parliament, where a blast occurred on the fifth floor, a number of people have been locked during the assault.

The Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks via its online forum.
