Iran Captain Saeid Marouf Praises Rising Star Manavinezhad

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national volleyball team's captain lauded his young teammate Mohammadjavad Manavinezhad because of his excellent performance in the match against Argentina.

Manavinezhad came in as a sub for Iran and lived up to the expectations coach Igor Kolakovic had from him. He was on fire stringing up 26 points to become the best scorer of the match.

Milad Ebadipour also impressed with 22 points on his tally, as many as Cristian Poglajen scored for Argentina (including four aces).

The fans in Tehran were also pleased with the home squad’s 3-2 (29-27, 25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 15-11) victory over Argentina in a 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League clash.

“Thank God we won our last home match. We had played Argentina before and the same happened. The first set was very important for both teams. It helped us get better with our game. I think, if we had not had Mohammadjavad Manavinezhad, the match would have evolved differently. Fortunately, he did his job very well and the other players used most out of their potential at the sensitive points of the game,” Marouf said in the post-match news conference.

“Congratulations to the Iranian fans for this win because in the tie-breaker the difference between Argentina and Iran came from the spectators who inspired us to win. Anyway, a victory is always sweet."

"I hope, we can also do a good job in Poland to finish the tournament in a good position,” the setter added.
