Syria Army Continues to Score Gains against Daesh

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their fight against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs, inflicting major losses on the Takfiri militants in the central province.

On Monday, Syrian forces continued to make major advances against the militants in Homs and managed to seize control of the area of Dohour al-Ghanaem area, north of Abu kala dam, the official SANA news agency reported.

During the clashes, a large group of the Daesh terrorists lost were killed and several of their vehicles were destroyed.

In a separate development, the Syrian government forces foiled a major attack by Daesh terrorists in southern areas of the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.

The terrorists were pushed back in Liwaa al-Tameen district and near the province’s airport.

According to the report, more than 60 militants were killed during the counterattack.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
