Dozens of Saudi Mercenaries Killed in Yemeni Forces’ Counterattacks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and Popular Committees managed to repel massive attacks against a presidential palace in the country’s southwestern city of Taiz, killing dozens of the mercenaries of the Saudi-led coalition.

The Saudi mercenaries continued their attacks on the presidential palace and al-Tashrifat military camp in Taiz from Monday morning to evening, a military source said according to the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website.

In response, the forces of the Yemeni army and Popular Committees repulsed the attacks, killing dozens of the Saudi-backed militants, according to the report.

The Yemeni Defense Ministry announced on June 3 that the army had managed to capture the palace and the military camp in Taiz from the mercenaries.

Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to resigned president.

According to Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development, the Saudi campaign has claimed the lives of over 12,000 Yemenis and left more than 20,000 others wounded.
