UAE Pardons 21 Iranian Prisoners

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Twenty-one Iranian prisoners jailed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been granted clemency on the occasion of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Iran’s consulate in Dubai said.

According to the Iranian consulate, the Iranian nationals were serving prison terms in the cities of Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah.

The 21 inmates have been pardoned and are going to return home, it added.

In August 2016, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said the country’s diplomatic mission in the UAE seriously pursues the status of Iranian convicts in the Arab country and makes requests for their release on every occasion.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The holy month marks the most special of all occasions for Muslims. It is a celebration of the descent of the Word of God, the Quran, from Heaven to the earth.
