Iran’s President Sends Message to Qatari Emir

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Qatar’s emir has received a message from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani amid a growing diplomatic crisis in the Persian Gulf region, the Arab country’s foreign ministry said.

In a statement on Sunday, the foreign ministry announced, “The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received Saturday a verbal message from President of Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hassan Rouhani”.

“Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari conveyed the message, during a meeting with the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani today,” it added, Qatar's official news agency reported.

The message came after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates severed ties with Qatar in early June, officially accusing Doha of supporting terrorism and destabilizing the region, which Doha strongly denies. In their apparent bid to secure US support and that of Israel, they further suspended all land, air and sea traffic with Qatar, expelled its diplomats and ordered Qatari citizens to leave their countries.

Following the move by the Arab states, Iran voiced readiness to provide Qatar with whatever food products the Arab country needs.
