Daesh Militants Suffer Major Losses in Deir Ez-Zor, Homs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s artillery on Sunday pounded the positions of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, killing and injuring a large group of them.

On Sunday morning, the Syrian army bombarded the fortifications of the terrorists in the areas of Panorama, Borouk Hill, Airport, al-Tharda, and al-Hweiqa, killing scores of them, Syria's SANA news agency reported.

Later in the day, Syrian forces hit the terrorists’ hideouts in Hattla and nearby areas of the Airport, inflicting major losses on them.

In a separate development, the army launched an operation against the terror group in al-Talila Reserve, 13 km south of Arak village, in the central province of Homs.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
