Quds Day Prevents Palestinian Issue from Fading into Oblivion: Ex-Lebanese Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A former Lebanese defense minister highlighted the importance of the forthcoming International Quds Day, due to be held on Friday, and said it prevents the issue of Palestine from sliding into oblivion.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Abdul Rahim Mourad pointed to recent crises and tensions in the Middle East and said they are part of a US-Israeli plot to make the Muslim world forget the Palestinian issue.

The issue should be always the top concern for the Muslim and Arab world, he said, adding that the conspiracies of the Zionist enemy and the US government should be thwarted.

The former Lebanese minister also lauded Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, for initiating the International Quds Day and said the day prevents the Palestinian issue to fade into oblivion.

On International Quds Day, rallies are held in different parts of the world and demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of Imam Khomeini who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
