Commander Says Iran One of World’s Major Missile Powers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri highlighted the country’s missile power and said the hegemonic powers cannot confront the Islamic Republic.

Speaking at a gathering of technology activists in Tehran on Monday, Major General Baqeri highlighted the weakness of domineering powers in the face of the Islamic Republic and said they are not capable of confronting the country.

He further said that Iran is in permanent competition with domineering powers in various areas, including the missile field.

“Thanks to the blood of martyrs and efforts made by domestic scientists, we are now one of the world’s biggest powers in the field of missiles,” he said.

The remarks came after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted Daesh (ISIL) terrorists’ positions in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor on Sunday night.

In an operation codenamed “Laylat al-Qadr”, the IRGC fired six mid-range ballistic missiles at various targets within a range of 650 to 700 kilometers, including the headquarters, ammunition and logistic depots of the terrorists.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Head of the IRGC Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif said, “The firing of these missiles had previously been coordinated with Syria.”

He also emphasized that the missile attacks were carried out in response to the recent Daesh-claimed terror attacks in Tehran, adding that Zolfaqar high-precision missiles were among those used in the attack.

The IRGC public relations office statement said Sunday that the missiles were fired from the IRGC aerospace force’s bases in Iran’s western provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan.
