Syria Army Scores Gains against Daesh in Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s artillery heavily pounded the positions of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting major losses on them.

Late on Monday, the Syrian army’s artillery targeted Daesh hideouts and fortifications in nearby areas of the Panorama school, Tal Brouk, al-Thardeh, the Airport and al-Howeiqa, destroying their vehicles and claiming the lives of dozens of them.

Following the bombardment, Syrian warplanes bombed the terrorists’ positions in al-Hamidiyeh, the Panorama and the villages of al-Bghiliyeh and Aiyyash.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
