Iran’s Freestyle Wrestlers Stand 1st in 2013 World Wrestling Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's freestyle wrestling team managed to grab the top title in the 2013 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

On Wednesday, Iran gained 46 points after freestyle wrestler Ezatollah Akbari defeated Uzbek Rashid Kurbanov in the semi-final match of the men’s 74kg category.

Akbari had earlier overpowered Alexandr Burca of Moldova, Georgian athlete Iakob Makarashvili, Yunierki Blanco Mora from Cuba and Japanese wrestler Sohsuke Takatani at Budapest Sports Arena.

Iran clinched two gold medals on Monday and a pair of bronze medals on Tuesday.

The 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships opened in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest on September 16, and will wrap up on September 22.
