Iran’s Top General Urges Muslim Unity in Eid Message

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - In a message honoring the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri referred to unity as the Islamic world’s pressing need in the current circumstances, calling for concerted action against terrorism.

The senior general on Saturday sent separate messages to the military officials and commanders of the Islamic countries, offering warm wishes on the occasion of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

In his message, Major General Baqeri said the Muslim world is in need of unity more than ever in the current “delicate and critical” conditions.

He also called on the Muslim authorities across the world to focus efforts on the liberation of Palestine from the control of “usurping Zionists,” the fight against all forms of terrorism, and above all, on countering the “global arrogance” (the US) as the root cause of division among the regional countries.

The senior general finally voiced the Iranian Armed Forces’ readiness to bolster cooperation with the military forces and governments of the “friend and brother” countries.

Known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast, Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all around the world.

The observance traditionally begins with the sighting of the new moon of the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. This year, Eid falls on June 26 in Iran.
