Iranian Parliamentary Delegation in Portugal to Discuss Bilateral Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A delegation of Iranian lawmakers started an official visit to Portugal in a bid to boost parliamentary relations between the Islamic Republic and the Southern European in all spheres.

The members of Iran-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by Mostafa Kavakebian, left Tehran for Lisbon early on Tuesday.

During their trip to Portugal, made at the official invitation of Kavakebian’s Portuguese counterpart, the Iranian lawmakers will hold talks with parliamentary officials of the European country on a range of issues, including ways to boost political ties and facilitate cooperation in various cultural and scientific areas.

In December 2016, during a visit to Tehran, Sergio Sousa Pinto, chairman of the Portuguese Parliament’s committee on foreign affairs and Portuguese communities, highlighted his country’s common views with Iran on many regional and international issues.

The European Union, unlike the US, approves of Iran’s approach to settling regional crises politically, he said at the time.
