Iran Announces Readiness to Train Foreign Rescuers
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) announced its readiness to train rescuers from other countries following a recent call by the United Nations humanitarian chief for Iran’s partnership in providing regional and international rescue training courses.
Newly-appointed Secretary General of the IRSC Mohammad Farhadi said on Saturday that his organization is planning to upgrade its higher education institute to an international university.
He said that after a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos last week,she called on Iran to broaden the IRSC higher education institute’s activities at regional and even international levels.
Farhadi said the UN envoy also asked Iranian officials to start enrolling rescuers from other countries and give them training in different fields of crisis management.
Also pointing to the IRSC’s high capacities in other fields, Farhadi said his organization can, in collaboration with pharmecutical companies and scientific centers, produce new formula medicines for hard-to-treat diseases.
Valerie Amos, who was in Tehran last week, said the Iranian government could play an effective role in crisis response. "Iran has a well-developed system for disaster preparedness and response and often shares their capacity and expertise when responding to emergencies in other countries," she said in a statement.
