Iran’s FM Congratulates Iraq on Mosul Liberation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated the Iraqi nation and government on the liberation of Mosul from the hands of the Takfiri Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists.

“Congratulations to brave people & Government of Iraq upon liberation of Mosul. When Iraqis join hands, no limits to what they can achieve,” Zarif said in a message posted on his Twitter account late on Sunday evening.

Early on Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul and congratulated the armed forces for their “victory” over Daesh (after nearly nine months of urban warfare, even as heavy fighting continued in a small portion of the Old City neighborhood.

Daesh’s defeat in Mosul three years after taking the city is a major blow for the Takfiri group, which is also losing ground in its operational base in the Syrian city of Raqqa from where it has planned global attacks.
