Arms Brokers Trying to Sabotage Afghanistan’s Ties with Russia, Iran: Official

KABUL (Tasnim) – There is no sign or evidence that shows Iran and Russia’s support for the Taliban, a senior Afghan official said on Monday, also stressing that arms brokers are trying to sabotage Kabul’s ties with Moscow and Tehran.

Mohammad Radmanesh, a deputy spokesperson for the Afghan Defense Ministry, in reaction to some local media reports, said the ministry has no evidence that proves Tehran and Moscow’s support for armed opponents of the Afghan government.

Speaking to Radio Free Afghanistan (RFA), he also said that arms brokers are doing their best to undermine mutual trust between Afghanistan and other countries.

His comments came after a member of the provincial council of Farah province, West of Afghanistan, claimed recently that Iran is supporting armed opposition groups in the country.

In reaction to such claims, the Afghan Defense Ministry declared last week that it would investigate the issue of foreign arms and financial support for the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Faraidoon Obaidi, an Afghan security expert said to media that those who claim neighboring and regional countries support the Taliban should provide evidence to the Afghan government for their claims.
