Next JCPOA Joint Commission Meeting Slated for July 21 in Vienna
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A new session of the JCPOA joint commission, a group tasked with monitoring commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, will be held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on July 21, an Iranian diplomat said.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi told reporters on Tuesday that he is going to discuss the topics in the upcoming Vienna session at a meeting with his Russian counterpart in Tehran today.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has travelled to Iran for regular political consultations and coordination on various issues, particularly the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), Araqchi added.
Commenting on an upcoming visit that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is going to pay to New York, Araqchi said Iran’s delegation will hold bilateral meetings with the Group 5+1 (also known as E3+3) members on the sidelines of the visit.
He further refused to rule out the possibility of a meeting between Iranian and American delegations in the US, saying any such gathering will be held only within the framework of the JCPOA.
As regards the bilateral meetings about the JCPOA in the US, Araqchi said they will be held either at the level of experts or the deputy foreign ministers.
Iran and the six powers reached a conclusion over the text of the nuclear deal in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.
