US-Backed Forces Close In on Syria’s Raqqa (Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Forces backed by the US launched an offensive against the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group in Syria’s northern city of Raqqa from three directions.

Equipped with US arms and vehicles, the forces, collectively called the Syrian Democratic Forces and made up of Syrian Kurdish fighters as well as Arab, Assyrian, Armenian and Turkmen forces, have surrounded Raqqa from the east, north and west since a couple of months ago.

The operation to force Daesh out of Raqqa, the terrorist group’s self-proclaimed capital, has begun as US is providing the Syrian Democratic Forces with aerial assistance and artillery.

Tasnim’s reporter in Syria has recorded a video of the US military vehicles rolling in Raqqa.

Daesh terrorist elements have always used the southern suburb of Raqqa to launch attacks against the Syrian Army in Homs, Tedmor, and southern regions of Deir ez-Zor.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Army has blocked Daesh elements’ infiltration to regions under its control and made big achievements by liberating al-Rasafah and more than 20 towns and farms in Raqqa’s southern countryside.

Daesh occupied Raqqa in 2014 and made the city capital of its self-proclaimed caliphate. The terrorist group committed brutal crimes including beheading and torturing of civilians in its three years ruling of the region.
