Diplomat: Omani FM’s Iran Visit Had a Message

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The recent visit by Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah to Tehran had a message like any other diplomatic trip, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

During a visit to the Tasnim News Agency’s central office in Tehran on Wednesday, Bahram Qassemi said a range of issues were discussed during bin Alawi’s trip to Iran.

“His trip had a message,” Qassemi noted, adding that Iran and Oman have enjoyed “special” relations over the past decades.

The Omani minister’s visit to Iran was a reflection of the good ties between Tehran and Muscat and their regular consultations, the spokesman added, saying the subjects mooted in bin Alawi’s meetings with Iranian officials included bilateral relations, the latest regional developments, and approaches to settling conflicts.

The top Omani diplomat arrived in Tehran on Tuesday night following an official visit to the Qatari capital of Doha, and held meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday.

The visits came as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Bahrain have cut diplomatic ties and all land, sea, and air contacts with Qatar, accusing the Persian Gulf country of supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs.
