Syria Army Retakes Several Areas in Deir Ez-Zor, Raqqa

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor, retaking several areas from the terrorist group in the eastern province.

On Saturday, Syrian troops made advances in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor and managed to recapture a number of districts there, SANA news agency reported.

Separately, the Arab country’s government forces scored gains against the terror group in Raqqa and liberated a number of oil fields in southern areas of the northern province.

During the clashes in the two provinces, a large number of the Takfiri militants, including Saudi and Tunisian leaders, were killed and injured, the report added.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
