Iraq Should Sue Saudis for Sponsoring Terrorists: Expert
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iraqi political expert said Baghdad should sue the governments that sponsored terrorist groups in Iraq, particularly Saudi Arabia whose clerics have been calling for the massacre of Shiite Muslims.
In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, Ali Jaber al-Tamimi hailed the liberation of Iraq’s northern city of Mosul from the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group as a milestone at the local, regional and international levels, saying Baghdad has now a lot to do in the post-Daesh era.
The Iraqi diplomatic bodies have a long way to go, and should bring legal action against the governments that supported terrorism in Iraq, he added.
“The main country that should be sued for supporting the terrorists in Iraq is Saudi Arabia,” Tamimi emphasized, noting that 40 clerics in Saudi Arabia have issued fatwas claiming that the killing of Shiite Muslims in Iraq is religiously permitted.
Iraq should sue those Saudis in international courts, the analyst underlined.
Tamimi further praised Iran for the genuine support it provided for the Iraqi government and nation in the fight against terrorism, saying Iran’s backing will go down in history.
Earlier this month, Iraq declared the complete liberation of Mosul some three years after the northern city fell to Daesh terrorists.
After eight months of difficult urban warfare, Iraqi military forces on June 29 captured the Mosul mosque at the heart of the strategic northern city, where Daesh had declared its de facto capital.
The recapture of Mosul, located some 400 kilometers north of Baghdad, marked the effective end of Daesh in the Arab country.
Daesh stronghold in Syria’s Raqqa is also close to falling.
