Iran Nuclear Deal Result of ‘Collective Responsibility’: EU’s Mogherini
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini described the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers as “strong”, saying that “collective responsibility” made the agreement possible.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a “strong deal made to stand the test of time”, Mogherini said on Wednesday.
“Two years after the deal with Iran was signed, we see and we breathe a very different atmosphere in global affairs. It is not always easy to find or to build the same spirit of collective responsibility that made the Iran deal possible,” she said.
“In these two years, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has certified six times -- not once, six times – the full implementation of the deal’s provisions,” Mogherini added.
“The deal with Iran does not simply belong to the parties that worked on it and made it possible. For sure, it does not belong to one or two countries alone. It belongs to the entire international community. The deal has made the region and the whole world more secure,” she said.
The top EU diplomat further emphasized the need for exercising “patience,” “perseverance” and “stubbornness” in efforts towards the achievement of “win-win solutions” to different international issues.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.
Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
