Iranian Frigates Go to Russia for Military Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two Iranian naval vessels set sail for Russia to partake in military competitions.

Two Peykan-class frigates from the Iranian Navy’s Caspian flotilla left the country’s northern coasts to Russia for military games.

The two vessels, a Peykan and a Joshan frigate, are going to make a port call at the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Baku as part of their itinerary before reaching Russia.

Commander of the Navy’s Caspian flotilla, Admiral Ahmad Reza Baqeri, told Tasnim that the overseas mission would last for 25 days.

Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, with their naval vessels making regular “friendly port calls.”

Earlier this month, Russian naval flotilla ‘Makhachkala’ berthed at Iran’s northern port city of Bandar Anzali as part of programs intended to boost military cooperation between the two countries.
