Daesh Terrorists Suffer Losses in Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Deir ez-Zor, inflicting heavy casualties on the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in the eastern province.

Army troops, backed Syrian warplanes, targeted the positions of the terrorists in the southern and southwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, killing and injuring a large group of them, SANA reported.

The operation was supported by airstrikes carried out by the Syrian Air Force in the neighborhoods of Knamat, Mi’abar Knamat, Hwaijet Sakar and al-Panorama, the report said.

It added that the Daesh terrorists, in response, shelled government-held districts of al-Joura, al-Qosour and al-Muwazafin, causing only material damage.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
