Official Calls for Yemen’s Efforts to Free Abducted Iranian Diplomat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian Foreign Ministry official has called on Yemeni officials to step up efforts to ensure the release of Nour Ahmad Nikbakht, the country's embassy staffer in Yemen, who was taken hostage in Sana'a some months ago.

“We call on the authorities of this country (Yemen) for further efforts to immediately resolve the issue of abduction of Nikbakht, our embassy's administrative attaché in Yemen,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian told Tasnim News Agency on Monday.

“Iran and Yemen’s mutual efforts are in progress for his freedom,” the Iranian official added, and emphasized that the kidnapped diplomat is in good health.

On July 21, a group of armed men kidnapped Iranian Embassy staff member Nour Ahmad Nikbakht in Yemeni capital of Sana'a, and took him to an unknown location.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction and the officials at the Iranian foreign ministry are working with Yemeni government to release him.

In August, Iran’s Foreign Ministry dispatched a delegation to Sana’a in order to pursue the fate of the abducted Iranian diplomat there.
