Commander Slams US for Deliberate Bombing of Iraqi Forces

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top commander serving at the Iraqi volunteer forces lashed out at the US forces for a “deliberate” attack on the fighters affiliated with the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units, saying the US military was fully aware that there was no Daesh (ISIL) militant in the target zone.

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, Abu Ala al-Welayi, commander of Sayyid al-Shohada Battalions, a main wing of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units or Hashid al-Shaabi, said the US bombed the Iraqi forces on Monday night deliberately.

The strike could not have been carried out accidentally by any means, the commander added, saying the American forces fly drones over the area around the clock and were aware that the Sayyid al-Shohada fighters had cleansed the area of terrorists.

Last night’s attack was a great catastrophe, Welayi said, noting that Hashid al-Shaabi has called on the Iraqi government to immediately launch a probe into the incident.

On Monday, the US military forces attacked a military base recently captured by Hashid al-Shaabi forces near al-Tanf, an area on Iraq-Syria border.

According to Welayi, 47 forces were killed in the US strike by artillery fire and smart bombs.
