World Junior Water Polo Championships: Iran Beats South Africa

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated South Africa in the FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships on Thursday.

In the round 13-20, Iran collected its first win with a 14-9 margin over South Africa, leading 6-0 at halftime. Jason Evazard top-scored with four goals as South Africa awoke and won the second half 9-8.

The Iranian team will play Netherlands in Friday's classification semifinals for 13-16.

Iran has lost to Russia, Greece and USA and defeated Puerto Rico and South Africa so far.

The 19th edition of the FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships is taking place in Belgrade, Serbia, from August 5-20, 2017.

The competition gathers 20 teams from the five continents, an increase of two teams since the previous edition two years ago in Almaty (KAZ), where 18 teams battled it out for the crown.
