Europeans Do Not Agree with All US Policies: Belgian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Siegfried Bracke said the European Union countries do not see eye to eye with Washington on all policies and stances.

The Europeans do not approve of all stances and policies of the US government and are moving on their own path, Bracke said in a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Sunday.

Belgium believes that it is of high importance to establish the EU’s office in the Iranian capital of Tehran, he added.

He further pointed to his meeting with Larijani prior to the press conference and said, during the talks, the two sides agreed to make efforts to settle banking problems hampering bilateral trade between Iran and Belgium.

The remarks come against the backdrop of US moves to renege on its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) which came into force in January 2016.

The comprehensive nuclear agreement terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.

However, Iranian officials have complained about the failure of the other side, especially the US, to fully implement the accord, as Iran still has problems in its banking transactions with other countries.
