Syria Army Gains Ground against Daesh on Eastern Bank of Euphrates
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Deir ez-Zor, retaking more areas on the eastern bank of Euphrates River in the eastern province.
Syrian forces on Tuesday made more advances against Daesh militants toward the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor, liberating the districts of al-Sabha, Koniko, Mazloum, al-Shomeitia and al-Maratt there, SANA news agency reported.
A large group of the Takfiri militants were killed and injured in the clashes.
On Monday, Syrian government troops crossed to the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor for the first time since they broke a siege on parts of the eastern city earlier this month.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
