Iran’s Army Develops New Suicide Drone

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Army Ground Force has manufactured a new type of advanced suicide drone, dubbed 'Ra'ad 85', a senior commander announced Saturday.

Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters here in Tehran on Saturday that his forces have managed to produce a new type of suicide drone, dubbed Ra’d 85 (Thunder 85).

“This drone is like a mobile bomb, and is capable of destroying fixed and mobile targets,” the commander added.

He also noted that the new suicide drone which has been manufactured in various sizes, can even be used to target the enemy helicopters.

The top commander’s remarks came in a ceremony to unveil the Army Ground Force’s latest Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), dubbed ‘Yasir’, which enjoys high flight capability, can stay aloft for long hours, and has high zoom and resolution capabilities.

Pourdastan announced earlier on Wednesday that the Research and Self-sufficiency Jihad Organization of the Iranian Army has conducted remarkable work in producing new equipment, especially electronic warfare systems.

In August, Pourdastan said that the country has equipped army units with a new type of advanced suicide drone which is capable of destroying both air and ground targets.
